Description

My research objective is to understand the role of RNA structure and function in gene regulation. I had focused on three major areas: A. Secondary/tertiary structures and folding pathways of RNA in pathogens, B. Mapping epigenetic modifications in RNA from pathogenic species, and C. Profiling RNA-mediated regulatory networks in pathogenic species. RNA function is poorly understood from a structure perspective, and it is difficult to determine the exact combination of physical properties that affect regulation by any particular RNA. I use a combination of structural biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, computational biology, and various cellular models to accomplish the above research objectives. My long-term goal is to contribute effort and dedication towards deciphering the regulatory functions of RNA in disease states and to put that knowledge toward alleviating pathological conditions by developing novel RNA based therapeutics.
